Where to Start With Carbon Fiber for Your FL5 Civic Type R

If you've just picked up an FL5 and started looking at carbon fiber options, the range can be overwhelming fast: lips, diffusers, side skirt covers, interior trim, all in dry carbon, all claiming to be the upgrade that matters most. This is a practical starting point: what each category actually does, and where to look first depending on what you're going for.

Exterior first, or interior first?

It depends on what you're trying to change. If the goal is how the car looks parked, exterior pieces, like the front lip and rear diffuser, make the biggest visual difference for the smallest number of parts. If you're more focused on cleaning up the cabin, interior garnish pieces are lower-cost individually and easier to do a few at a time.

Where most FL5 builds start: the front end

The front lip is a 3-piece dry carbon set and it's usually the first thing people add, since it's the part of the car you look at every time you walk up to it. Paired with the front lower grille cover, it finishes the whole lower front end in carbon rather than leaving a visible split between finished and unfinished panels.

Sides and rear

Front side skirt covers carry the same finish down the length of the car, and the rear diffuser is a direct OEM-replacement piece that bolts straight in, no fabrication, no trimming. If you're doing the car in stages, front lip and diffuser first, sides after, is the order most people land on, since it bookends the car before filling in the middle.

Smaller details that add up

Once the bigger panels are done, pieces like the bootlip and headlight garnish are inexpensive ways to keep going without committing to another large panel. They're the kind of parts that don't look like much on their own but are obvious in their absence once the rest of the car is finished.
